First Book Coaching is a book coaching company based in the heart of London, working with budding authors internationally. We specialise in making the process of creating a novel clear and easy to understand, so that ideas can become finished projects without the process feeling like a frustrating puzzle.

We got our start in 2018, working with writers in the UK and USA and helping them to draft, edit, and polish their books to the point where they could successfully pitch or self publish them.

A little bit about our team:

Max Gorlov is a writing coach from East London, and has been an editor and advisor on more than one hundred and thirty novels, short story collections and memoirs.

He's worked in just about every genre from science fiction and fantasy to romance, crime, mystery and memoir.

Ben Clark is a coach and developmental editor from Oxford in the UK. He works closely with our clients to hold them accountable, and has a keen eye for structural and developmental problems, guiding dozens of our clients to organise their stories and stay on track.

Anna Schechter graduated from the University of Oxford with a Masters in Victorian Literature. She's been working with writers in workshops for years, and has now helped dozens of our clients to organise their ideas and make better progress with their books too.

As a team, First Book Coaching emphasises that though there is no 'one way' to create a novel, there are tools and processes that anyone can learn. We focus on teaching the building blocks of storytelling in such a way that you'll understand how to bring your project to life with your own unique voice and approach.

Writing a novel-length project can feel easy once you have a process to follow, a bit of encouragement and good quality feedback along the way.
